Circular Shawl (antique pattern)

(I will edit this to add the information where this pattern was originally published. I know it was a Beehive Wool book, which is in its original form on antiquepattern.org)

From working this pattern myself, it can be made with pretty much any type of yarn, and it will still turn out to be quite a lovely shawl. I only wrote down worsted yarn with an N hook because that’s what I happened to use when I made the shawl. I have translated it below into modern terminology so that more people can make this simple, yet lovely, shawl.

Materials:

3 skeins Bernat Super Value worsted weight, 100% acrylic, 445 yds. ea.

Boye size N hook

Special Stitch:

hdc-bobble (hb): (yo, insert hook into ch-1 sp, yo, pull through) 3 times, pulling yarn up to the height of a dc, yo, pull yarn through all loops on hook, yo, pull through again.

hb rib: hb, ch 1, hb

Instructions:

Ch 8, join w/ sl st to form ring.

Rnd. 1: Ch 4 (counts as 1st dc, ch 1), (dc, ch 1) 13 times into ring, join w/ sl st to 3rd ch of ch-4. Do not turn here and throughout.

Rnd. 2: Ch 4. In ea ch-1 sp work (dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1). Join w/ sl st in 3rd ch of ch-4.

Rnd. 3: Ch 4. *(Dc, ch 1) twice in next ch-1 sp, (dc, ch1) in next ch-1 sp; rep from * around, join w/ sl st to 3rd ch of ch-4.
