Crochet Shawl I

I have not yet made this shawl, but I’m getting ready to, so until then, I don’t know what yardage to post. At any rate, enjoy this pattern…it looks like a lot of fun!

Rnd. 1: Ch 3, sc into same st as join, ch 3, *sc into next ch, ch 3, sc into same ch, ch 3; rep from * around, sc into 1st ch-3 sp. Do not turn here, and rest of pattern.

Rnd. 2: Ch 3, sc in same ch-3 sp, *ch 3, sc into next ch-3, ch 3, (sc, ch 3) twice into next ch-3 sp–corner made; rep from * around.

Rnds. 3-5: Rep Rnd. 2, working (sc, ch 3) into ea ch-3 sp until a corner is reached, then work (sc, ch 3) twice in the corner.

Rnd. 6: Rep Rnd. 2 for 2 sides of the square, turn the 3rd corner, then *ch 8, sk next ch-3 sp, sc in next ch-3 sp, ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp, ch 8, sc into corner ch-3; rep from * to end of round.

Rnd. 11: Rep (ch 3, sc in ch-3 sp) pattern for 1st 2 sides, then turn 3rd corner, *sc into sc before ch-8 sp, ch 3, sc into next sc–this creates a raised pattern, ch 3, sc in next sc, ch 3, sc in next sc, then continue (ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp) around corner; rep from * to end of 4th side.

Rnd. 12: (Ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp) around, working (sc, ch 3) twice in corners.

Rnd.13: Rep Rnd. 12.

Rnd. 14: Rep (ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp) pattern for 1st 2 sides, pass 3rd corner, *(ch 8, sk next ch-3 sp, sc in next ch-3 sp, ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp) across to corner, work corner as before; rep from * for the 4th side.

Rep Rnd. 6-13, increasing in the corners, and the number of ch-8 sps will increase w/ ea set. Work until size desired, ending w/ a rep of Rnd. 13.
